He’s not like everyone else. There is no one quite like Brock Lesnar in the history of professional wrestling. With his amateur skills, mixed martial arts training and pure strength, Lesnar is not someone who can be duplicated. Smackdown Date: January 13, 2023 Location: Resch Center, Green Bay, Wisconsin Commentators: Wade Barrett, Michael Cole It’s a big show this week as we have a pair of major matches. This week we’ll be seeing another match between Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens, which should have some Bloodline implications. In addition, Gunther is defending the Intercontinental Title against Braun Strowman. Let’s get to it. Intercontinental Title: Braun Strowman vs. Gunther Strowman is challenging and wearing boots designed by a boy who died in the Waukesha parade shootings. Feeling process to start as Gunther is a bit hesitant to go after him. Strowman manages to send him outside though and the running shoulder sends Gunther into the announcers’ table. We take a break and come back with Strowman getting posted, allowing Gunther to start in on the arm. The armbar goes on but Strowman powers up, only to fall down when the arm gives out. Money In The Bank Briefcase Cashed In On Monday Night Raw In Brand New Way
There it goes. WWE offers several annual traditions, many of which involve championships and shots at them. There are ways to earn a guaranteed title shot at some point down the line, but there is one that lets the challenger choose their shot whenever the feel like it. That was the case this week, but it was in a completely different way than it has ever been done before. This week on Monday Night Raw, Seth Rollins issued an open challenge for a shot at the United States Title. Before the match, Bobby Lashley came to the ring and attacked Rollins, putting him through the announcers’ table. Mr. Money In The Bank Austin Theory came to the ring and cashed in his briefcase for a title shot against Rollins. Theory went on to lose the title shot after Lashley interfered. That’s just awesome. There are a lot of ways to film a wrestling match and some of the best involve making the fans feel like they are right there watching things live. It is difficult to figure out how to make it work that well, but every so often you get a special moment that is a lot closer than anything else. That was the case this week in one of the coolest shots you will ever see. The main event of WWE Crown Jewel 2022 saw Logan Paul unsuccessfully challenge Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title. During the match, Paul laid Reigns on the announcers’ table and hit a frog splash to drive him through it. However, before he dove, Paul picked up a phone and filmed himself diving, with the clip having now been posted online. You don’t see this every day. Popular Name Gone From WWE After Six Years With The Company
There goes another one. WWE has been shaken up in several different ways recently and those changes do not seem to be slowing down whatsoever. With a new regime in charge of the company, all kinds of names have been moved around into different spots, with some people leaving altogether. That is the case again, as another popular name has departed from WWE. According to PWInsider.com, Nigel McGuinness has been released from WWE. This comes after WWE has shaken up their announcing teams with all shows now moving to two announcers. McGuinness is the second commentator to leave WWE after Jimmy Smith earlier this week. McGuinness has worked for the company since 2016 and has done commentary on Main Event, 205 Live, NXT UK and NXT. There is no word on where he will be working next. Opinion: This isn’t the biggest surprise after everything was shaken up yesterday but it is also a shame as McGuinness was one of the better commentators in WWE. WWE Broadcaster Confirms Departure From The Company Amid Shakeup
It was a nice run. The position of lead commentator on WWE Monday Night Raw is one of the most important in all of WWE. The show is still the company’s flagship program and fans are going to see what they company is doing every Monday night. We are currently going through a change in broadcasting, but one name is not going to be reassigned to another place in the company. Earlier this week, a report emerged that WWE would be changing the broadcasting teams on the three main television shows. This included Jimmy Smith being removed as the lead play by play announcer on Monday Night Raw. Smith has since commented on the situation, confirming that he has left WWE. Smith thanked fans for his time in the company and said that he was moving on, though not to where. This ends Smith’s run with WWE, which started in May 2021. They seem to be fans. There are certain moments in wrestling that get fans’ emotions going. It can be a lot of fun to see someone getting to do something that makes things interesting but they are pretty rare. You know them when you see them though and that seemed to be the case last weekend. It was so good that even the commentary team got excited. At WWE Money In The Bank, Liv Morgan won the women’s Money In The Bank briefcase and cashed in on the same night, defeating Ronda Rousey to become the new SmackDown Women’s Champion. WWE has released a video from the announcers’ table, showing Pat McAfee and Michael Cole’s reaction, with the two of them jumping up in excitement over the cash-in and title change. Double Homecoming: Two NXT Stars Expected To Return From Injury Soon
Twice as nice. Injuries are a terrible thing to see in wrestling as they can keep someone on the shelf for a long time, but they can also lead to some nice returns. Having someone come back from an injury is great to see as they can return refreshed and able to do something they have not done in a long time. That might be the case again soon in NXT, times two. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, both Io Shirai and Zoey Stark are expected to return to the ring relatively soon, though no specific date was given for either. Shirai has not wrestled since the April 2 Stand & Deliver when she hit the announcers’ table on a moonsault to the floor. Stark has been out of action since October as she is recovering from surgery for a torn ACL. Opinion: That is a great thing to see as the two of them have both been out of action for a long time. WWE Offers Medical Update On Two Banged Up Stars
They’re a bit banged up. WWE has a lot of television time available to them and it can be difficult to find ways to fill in all of that time. The company has several wrestlers available to help, but sometimes they need to make a few changes for the sake of a little freshening up. That seems to be the case again, as we might not be seeing a pair of stars, at least for a little bit. The main event of this week’s SmackDown saw the Usos defeat RKBro to unify the SmackDown and Raw Tag Team Titles. Following the match, the Bloodline attacked RKBro and laid both of them out, including putting Riddle through the announcers’ table. After the show, WWE released a medical update on Riddle and Randy Orton. Riddle has suffered a bruised hip and lower back while Orton will be undergoing a medical evaluation. Former WCW Announcer Trying To Keep Ric Flair From Returning To The Ring
I guess he isn’t a fan. There are all kinds of wrestling legends in the world but only a few of them are among the all time names. It is very rare to get to see someone still active into a sixth decade, but we might be seeing that later this year if a rumored match takes place. However, a former wrestling personality is not too thrilled at the idea of a legend getting back in the ring. Earlier this week, news broken that WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair, 73 years old, was considering a return to the ring to wrestle a match later this year. Since the announcement, former WCW broadcaster Chris Cruise has contacted the Maryland State Athletic Commission, saying that due to his age and health issues, Flair should not be allowed to return to the ring. There is no word on a response from the Commission. They might be someone you haven’t seen in a long time or someone brand new, but either way, you know you are in for something different. This could be even more interesting if it is someone who has changed a lot while they are gone, and that might be the case again in the near future. Cody Rhodes made his return to WWE at WrestleMania 38, defeating Seth Rollins at the show and then opening the following night’s Monday Night Raw. According to Fightful Select, there have been discussions on bringing Cody’s wife Brandi Rhodes in to WWE.
