Dragunov chased off JD McDonagh, who put him on the shelf in the first place. McDonagh has since posted a photo of his face to Twitter, revealing that he suffered a detached retina in his right eye, which he blames on Dragunov. See him again? We are almost on the Road To WrestleMania 39 and that means it is time for WWE to start cranking up the build towards the show. This can include bringing in a variety of stars, both new and legendary, for the event. WWE has done some of this on television, but now it seems that there might be something else that they have already done that they are waiting to release. People are excited. WWE issued a press release today, stating that they have broken the company’s all-time gate record for any WrestleMania, despite having yet to announce a single match. The previous record announced was $17.3 million in 2016 at WrestleMania 32 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. From the press release: The record gate comes on the heels of unprecedented ticket sales demand for WWE in 2022, in which it produced the highest-grossing gates of all-time for Royal Rumble, Survivor Series and Extreme Rules. Clash at the Castle in Cardiff, Wales, which marked WWE’s first major stadium show in the U.K. in 30 years, was the highest-grossing U.K. event in company history. The champ is back! According to a report from Variety, John Cena will be making his return to WWE on the final Smackdown of 2022. He will be appearing on the December 30 show, which will take place at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida. From the report: This will mark Cena’s second appearance in WWE in 2022, as he previously returned to the sports entertainment giant in June during an episode of “Monday Night Raw” to celebrate his 20 year anniversary with the company. He did not wrestle a match during that appearance, but rather spoke in the ring about his time with WWE while also appearing in backstage segments. In terms of working in the ring, Cena most recently embarked on the “Summer of Cena” tour in 2021, which culminated in a celebrated match against WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns at the annual “SummerSlam” pay-per-view in August 2021. They’re back at it. Wrestling has a lot of active parts to make the whole presentation work, but the live fans are one of the most important. Fans offer feedback and allow the wrestlers to get an idea of how they are doing at the moment. It can make a lot of difference when the fans are missing, but now some wrestlers are going to get a better idea of how things are going. NXT has announced that they will be returning to live touring. This week on NXT, an announcement was made that the promotion will be holding a tour of Florida in June and July. Eight shows were announced, with more being promised in the future. This marks the return of regular touring for NXT, with the promotion only running one show outside of Orlando, Florida since their relaunch in September 2021. That’s a great thing to see. There have been a lot of wrestlers throughout history and several of the legends are still around today. It can be rather sad to see them go through one issue after another, especially when health comes into play. That has been the case with one of the more famous tag wrestlers in recent months but now we have a very good update. Back in November, wrestling legend Brian Knobbs of the Nasty Boys was hospitalized with several health issues. Knobbs had been undergoing issues with his stomach and had suffered a fall which resulted in some broken bones. He has since lost 60 pounds and is said to be in better health. A video has now been uploaded to Twitter, showing Knobbs at Hogan’s Hangout in Tampa, Florida, where he sings the theme to the Wonder Years. Call it a crossover. Professional wrestlers are certainly athletes, but there is a certain stigma about them. While what they do is some of the hardest work in all of sports, critics will waste no time in reminding you that what you are seeing is fake, or at least scripted and predetermined. WWE has announced that The Miz and Titus O’Neil will be representing the company at the upcoming NFL Draft in Las Vegas. That’s quite a long time. The Coronavirus pandemic changed the way a lot of things worked in the world, including in the wrestling industry. While WWE was shaken up, they were able to continue moving forward thanks to their access to the Performance Center, where Monday Night Raw and SmackDown took place for several months. However, it turns out that things were a lot more difficult than they seemed. Former WWE referee discussed WWE’s time in the Performance Center during his Monday Mailbag Forum this week, where he revealed that some Performance Center matches took hours to shoot. The process involved starting a match, cutting the camera, filming the next piece of the match, and then splicing the material together. WWE moved out of the Performance Center in August 2020 and took up residence in the Thunderdome in Tampa, Florida. They returned to normal touring last July. You have to restock the shelves. There have been all kinds of wrestlers released from WWE over the last few years. These changes have completely reshaped the company’s roster and those adjustments will be felt for a long time to come. At some point WWE is going to have to do something to replenish their roster, and now they are taking some steps to help take care of the problem. WWE has announced its latest class of 14 NXT wrestlers, who will be reporting to the performance Center over the coming weeks. Some of these names have appeared on WWE television before, though some are still waiting to make their debut.
