Ouch: AEW Personality Says He Might Have Suffered A Broken Jaw This Week

That’s one way to go. There are all kinds of injuries in wrestling, some of which can be a lot more serious than others. As a physical sport, you never know when you are going to see someone get hurt in the course of a match. At the same time, there are also injury angles that are used to progress a story. The latter seems to be true in this case, and someone has something to say about it. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: On The Mend: Update On Injured AEW Star’s Recovery Status This week’s edition of Dark: Elevation saw Tony Nese and Ari Daivari face the Lucha Bros. During the match, the Lucha Bros superkicked Nese and Daivari’s manager Mark Sterling. Following the match, Sterling said that “they think my jaw might be broken”. Sterling also bragged about the ratings for the show being so high. There is nothing to indicate that this is anything more than a storyline. In regards to tonight’s @AEW main event… I’m ok. First, It was a heinous attack and they think my jaw might be broken. Secon..

It’s A Hit: Backstage Reaction To Raw XXX

They have reason to be. Earlier this week, WWE presented the Raw XXX special, marking thirty years of Monday Night Raw. The show featured a variety of legends and huge matches, along with several special appearances. As a result, the show was one of the biggest that WWE has presented on free television in a long time. A few days later, we know a bit more about how it was received. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Run It Back: WWE Sets Wheels In Motion To Reunite Successful Stable According to Fightful Select, “people of influence” within the company were very happy with how the show went. The show set a new record for the highest domestic gate in the history of Monday Night Raw, with the television viewership and ratings being the highest since 2020. There is no word on what parts of the show were the most well received compared to others. The show was a big deal. Michael Cole Opens Up On WWE After Vince McMahon’s Retirement

He seems happy. It has been a very busy year in the wrestling world with one major wrestling story after another taking place. The biggest of them all has been the resignation of Vince McMahon from WWE, as the company is now under new control for the first time in decades. It was not clear how much of a difference that would make but now a prominent WWE name is weighing in. WWE broadcaster Michael Cole appeared on the Pat McAfee Show to discuss how the company has changed since McMahon retired. Cole said that everything has been great, especially behind the scenes. He described it as a different world, with ratings and stories being positive. Cole called McMahon “a second dad in many ways” and the only person he had ever worked under in wrestling. Finally, Cole said that things had to keep going though and the show must go on. Cole has been around for a long time. Check out an awesome salute to his career: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: It is still weird to see..

Braun Strowman Reportedly Has Backstage Heat Over Recent Comments

That can cause trouble. A wrestling company’s locker room is like a family in a lot of ways, as the wrestlers see each other so often and are in the same place for such a long time on any given night. While they will often get along well enough, there are going to be some instances where problems come up. Now a wrestler’s comments appear to have gotten him in some hot water. Last Saturday, Braun Strowman defeated Omos at WWE Crown Jewel. Following the match, Strowman took to Twitter to mock wrestlers he described as “flippy floppers” as well as the concept of star ratings. According to Fightful Select, there is backstage heat on Strowman in WWE, as his comments were seen as being immature. There is nothing to suggest that this is an angle or will become an angle. Opinion: I can see how this might not go over so well as it is something that is only going to cause drama. Strowman is a very different style of wrestler who isn’t going to be including many flips, but that does not mean he..

Channel Changer: WWE Monday Night Raw Was Almost Canceled At One Point

Talk about a game changer. There are certain wrestling shows that are part of the fabric of the industry and Monday Night Raw might be at the top of that list. The show has been on the air for almost thirty years and has run over 1,500 shows. While most of those shows have come on the USA Network, there have been more than a few which aired elsewhere. It turns out that the show was almost off of the network entirely. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Monday Night Raw was almost canceled at some point in 1996 or 1997. A new executive was brought in to run the USA Network and did not want wrestling on the channel. The show was about to be canceled but the ratings increased enough that the executive had to keep it on the air. It was not clear what would happen if the show had been removed from the network schedule. Opinion: This is an interesting story, but not so much for the history. I find this to be more interesting because of what it says about a wrestling show. Just because a..

Not Their Style: WWE Trashes Violence On AEW Programming

I guess they aren’t fans. There are a lot of different ways to present a wrestling match and some of them are a bit more intense. Occasionally you will see a match get a lot more violent than others, which may or may not be a good thing. You will occasionally see bloodshed during a match, which is not everyone’s cup of tea. That was apparent this week. The Toronto Star has published an article comparing WWE and AEW programming. The article looks at the television ratings for WWE SmackDown and AEW Dynamite, noting that the numbers are getting closer and citing AEW’s edgier content. WWE sent in a statement for the piece, criticizing AEW’s content, particularly the street fight between the Bunny/Penelope Ford and Anna Jay/Tay Conti while promoting its own more family friendly product. Here is WWE’s statement: “If you look at the gory self-mutilation that bloodied several women in the December 31 event on TNT, it quickly becomes clear that these are very different businesses. We had an e..

RUMOR KILLER On AEW’s Women’s Division Being Limited

That’s a different take for AEW. The Women’s Revolution has changed the way women’s wrestling works in a very positive way. After years of women’s wrestling having next to no value whatsoever, it is now treated as something with value throughout the wrestling world. It is fascinating to see how far it has come, but what if someone with some more pull does not like it as much? Fightful Select has an update on WarnerMedia’s, the parent company of TNT and TBS, stance on women’s wrestling on AEW television. Last year, a rumor began circulating that WarnerMedia had only allowed one women’s match on any show on their networks. According to Fightful Select, there was no such rule ever handed down and there was no request or suggestion about less women’s wrestling to AEW. All that WarnerMedia cares about is “good content” and having high social or TV ratings. VIDEO: AEW Star Takes Shots At NXT And SmackDown After Dynamite

A shot across the bow(ens). There are a lot of ways to get attention in wrestling and one of the easiest is by using a microphone. A wrestling cutting a promo can instantly get extra eyes on them because it can be done so quickly. Some wrestlers are excellent on a microphone and can get people listening to them in a hurry. That was the case again this week with some lines that will get people talking. AEW President Tony Khan made an appearance after this week’s edition of Dynamite went off the air. Khan was interrupted by the Acclaimed, with Max Caster delivering another rap. Caster threatened to beat Khan like AEW beat NXT in the ratings and said that the team could wrestle and were better than Top Dolla, referencing the former NXT star who is part of the Hit Row stable. This is going to get some attention. Check out what Caster said, plus the Acclaimed and Hit Row in action: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains ..

Update On SmackDown Stars Appearing On Monday Night Raw (And Vice Versa)

Only in a pinch. There are so many wrestlers on the WWE’s main rosters that they have had to be divided into two groups. That is a nice problem to have, as you know when you can see various wrestlers, but it can be a little difficult to keep things interesting. Sometimes you get a few changes here or there, which is what happened earlier this week. You just might not want to get used to it. This week’s Monday Night Raw featured guest appearances by the Bloodline, with Universal Champion Roman Reigns wrestling twice on the show. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, wrestlers appearing on other brands is not something that will be regularly taking place. The move is said to be neither a short or long term plan, but it could be done more frequently if ratings continue to drop. It was a busy night. Check out what happened when the cameos took place: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play..

How AEW Led To A Major WWE Monday Night Raw Change

Changing things up. The battle for the top of the wrestling world has suddenly sprung to life all over again and it is rather fascinating to see. After twenty plus years of WWE being in charge, AEW is suddenly making quite the splash. While there is still a huge gap between the two companies, WWE is taking notice of someone making up some ground on them. That has caused some changes to a major show. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE moved the scheduled WWE Championship match from Extreme Rules to Monday Night Raw in response to AEW’s recent ratings success. Bobby Lashley will be defending his title against Randy Orton on this week’s Monday Night Raw, leaving Extreme Rules without a title match. There is no word on what will take the match’s place on the show. The show will be big regardless. Check out how the match was set up and what has WWE making changes: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, cl..

AEW’s Ratings Run: Will Possible Lockdowns Hurt Their Momentum?

AEW broke one million viewers for the fourth week in a row with the August 4 edition of Dynamite. According to TPPW, The show drew over a 1.10 rating. This run began four weeks ago with a 1.02, followed by 1.14 and a 1.10. It certainly seems that Tony Khan’s company has been growing in popularity over the past month and much of that growth is due to the return of live crowds. Those crowds came back after spending the bulk of 2020 watching from home, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Lockdowns in the United States prevented AEW from running events in front of fans and the same was true for WWE. Now that the pandemic is beginning to heat up once again, it could be that states will shut down as they did before. If that happens, will AEW’s momentum suffer as a result? Empty Arena Matches The idea of a professional wrestling show without a live audience was nothing but a novelty in years past. Empty arena matches were extremely rare and hardly ever happened. Perhaps the most famous one featur..

Hell In A Cell 2021 Preview, Predictions and Thoughts

The calendar has been changed around a bit this year so the October show is now in June and the show’s namesake match took place on the Smackdown before the show because….I’m assuming a ratings ploy. We still have two matches inside the Cell for Sunday though, because having three of them in about seventy two hours is perfectly acceptable. Let’s get to it. Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn The eternal feud continues as these two somehow aren’t inside the Cell, despite it being something that would make sense. Owens has been banged up by Commander Azeez as of late and Zayn thinks it’s pretty funny so of course it’s time for these two to fight again. Granted I’m not sure if they needed that much thought put into it, as these two could probably have a fight over a stale sandwich. We’ve seen this before: [This post contains video, click to play] For once I’ll take Zayn to win here, as he lost at Wrestlemania and Owens is coming in banged up after Friday. Owens would seem to be a likely challen..

WWE Changing Hiring Practices Due To AEW

That’s a new way to go. Over the last two years plus, WWE has been dealing with its first high level competition in a very long time. AEW has gone from not existing to a huge promotion in a pretty short span of time and that has made for quite the change. WWE has made some adjustments as a result and now they are changing things back to their previous style. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE has changed one of its hiring practices regarding releasing wrestlers. Over most of the course of AEW’s existence, WWE has not been willing to release wrestlers for fear of the wrestlers going to AEW. The company has since changed their minds, as demonstrated by their string of releases earlier this week. This change comes as WWE no longer sees AEW’s ratings performance in the 18-49 demographic as much of a problem. WWE has also accepted that they cannot and will not be putting AEW out of business so they are no longer seeing AEW as such a priority. Therefore, WWE is now much mo..

Monday Night Raw Sets A New Record (And It’s Not Good)

That’s a new one. Monday Night Raw has been having issues with its audience and television ratings for a very long time now. It has certainly been the case for the last few years but things have gotten even worse lately. Things keep getting worse and worse, which is not exactly a good sign for the company. Now things have reached an entirely new low. According to PWTorch, this week’s Monday Night Raw drew the lowest audience in the history of the show. This week’s show featured an average audience of 1.418 million viewers, based off hours of 1.536, 1.549 and 1.168. The demo rating was the lowest since December 20, 2020 with a .41. These numbers are down from last week’s 1.62 million viewers (-12%) and .45 rating (-2%). This week’s show was built around a #1 contenders match between Drew McIntyre and Kofi Kingston, with the winner advancing to face WWE Champion Bobby Lashley at Hell In A Cell. Other featured parts of the show included the return of the Miz, a Raw Tag Team Title match ..

AEW Dominating All Other Wrestling Television Audiences (In One Place)

I’d call that a win. WWE has been the undisputed king of professional wrestling for a very long time now and that is still the case for the most part. However, for the first time in decades, WWE has some serious competition in the form of All Elite Wrestling. The company has made an instant impact on the wrestling world and it turns out that they are a big deal outside the United States as well. Over the last year, AEW has been fairly regularly defeating NXT in the Wednesday Night Wars television ratings and audience. NXT has picked up a few wins here and there but for the most part, it has been the AEW Dynamite show. This has been quite the selling point for AEW so far, and it seems that they have another point to brag about, even if it is from around the world. AEW Vice President Cody has sent out a tweet detailing AEW’s success on television in the United Kingdom. The tweet includes the following information: • AEW Dynamite is beating the first-run broadcast of all of its competi..
