REVIEW: NXT TakeOver: R-Evolution: The Future Is Then

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net, starting today. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? NXT Takeover: R-Evolution Date: December 11, 2014 Location: Full Sail University, Winter Park, Florida Attendance: 400 Commentators: Rich Brennan, Alex Riley, Corey Graves This should be a big one as we have a huge showdown in the main event for the NXT Title with Sami Zayn getting his rematch against champion Adrian Neville after a screwy finish to their last match. Other than that we have the long awaited debut of Kevin Owens and Hideo Itami teaming with Finn Balor to face the Ascension. Let’s get t..

REVIEW: NXT Takeover: Fatal 4 Way: The Sequel

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? NXT Takeover: Fatal Fourway Date: September 11, 2014 Location: Full Sail University, Winter Park, Florida Attendance: 400 Commentators: Tom Phillips, Byron Saxton, Renee Young The question here is can they pull it off three times in a row. Arrival and the first Takeover were both outstanding shows that have set quite the standard for NXT, but now it’s up to them to pull it off one more time. The title tells you all you need to know about the main event with NXT Champion Adrian Neville defending against Sami Zayn, ..

Pat McAfee To Wrestle At WrestleMania 38

Now that’s a SHAHT AHT! During his first live interview in 15 years on today’s episode of “The Pat McAfee Show,” Vince McMahon invited the host to compete at WrestleMania 38. The invitation was extended due to the former NFL player and Smackdown commentator’s tremendous connection to the WWE Universe. You can see the announcement below: [This post contains video, click to play] McAfee last competed in a WWE ring at NXT Takeover: WarGames 2020. McAfee, along with Pete Dunne, Oney Lorcan, and Danny Burch defeated The Undisputed Era (Adam Cole, Roderick Strong, Kyle O’Reilly, and Bobby Fish). It is unknown at this time who his opponent will be. Editor’s Opinion: YES! This is awesome! I remember thinking all during the pandemic how absolutely terrific he has been at everything that he has done in WWE. Not only has become the best commentator in the company on Smackdown, but his in-ring work was fantastic and he has earned the right to compete at the Showcase of the Immortals. I have..

REVIEW: NXT Takeover: Orlando: Homecoming And Farewell

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Takeover: Orlando Date: April 1, 2017 Location: Amway Center, Orlando, Florida Attendance: 14,975 Commentators: Tom Phillips, Nigel McGuinness, Percy Watson It’s already time for another Takeover as the time between these things is seemingly getting shorter and shorter. If nothing else it certainly feels that way and that’s not the best thing in the world. These shows need time to build up and they’re not getting as much time now. Still though, if Bobby Roode vs. Shinsuke Nakamura can be as good as it was before, ..

Completely Fulfilled: NXT Champion Gets Married Over The Weekend

That’s a great thing to see. Professional wrestlers have a bit of a rough schedule as they only have so much free time. Independent wrestlers are constantly going from one show to another, while WWE wrestlers have a more structured but still just as busy scheduled. It doesn’t leave much time for personal lives, but one wrestler got to do something pretty special this week. NXT United Kingdom Champion Ilja Dragunov has announced that he got married over the week. The wedding took place on Friday, with Dragunov saying that he was “completely fulfilled”. Dragunov won the United Kingdom Title from Walter earlier this year at NXT Takeover 36 in August and has gone on to defend it against the likes of A-Kid and Rampage Brown. 17.12.2021. Finally. Completely fulfilled. pic.twitter.com/hMHucjCFRD — ???? ???????? (@UNBESIEGBAR_ZAR) December 18, 2021 It’s an awesome moment. Kyle O’Reilly Is Officially A Free Agent

Add another one to the list. According to a report from PWInsider, Kyle O’Reilly has not-resigned with WWE and has officially become a free agent. Both he and Johnny Gargano have been removed from the company’s internal roster. This news comes after Gargano became a free agent the day before. He is currently free to work anywhere he wants to since there was no non-compete attached to his contract. O’Reilly has had quite a career in NXT. He was a three-time WWE NXT tag team champion, and also won the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic in 2018 with Adam Cole. The pair, along with Bobby Fish and Roderick Strong, was known as the Undisputed Era and was one of the most successful factions in NXT history. However, Cole and O’Reilly had an intense rivalry throughout most of 2021, which led to a 2-out-of-3 Falls Match at NXT Takeover: 36. You can see the final war of words below: [This post contains video, click to play] Editor’s Opinion: This isn’t surprising to me at all. With Bobby Fish a..

WATCH: Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Sami Zayn From NXT: Takeover Dallas 2016

The King of Strong Style has arrived. WWE has posted a new video to its YouTube channel in which they show the full match between Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Sami Zayn at NXT Takeover: Dallas in 2016. This was Nakamura’s debut match under the WWE banner. You can see the match in its entirety below: [This post contains video, click to play] From WWE.com: Quickly, Nakamura’s Strong Style pedigree shone through as he battered Zayn with hard knees to the midsection and boots to the face. Zayn fought back, diving over the ropes onto Nakamura on the floor, then drilling him with a brutal Michinoku Driver back inside the ring. Once both Superstars were back on their feet, they began trading forearm strikes, one of which drew blood from the nose of Nakamura. Zayn downed his foe with a hard clothesline, but was soon caught in a cross armbreaker, which Nakamura transitioned into a Shining Triangle hold. The leader of the Zayniacs withstood the punishment, escaped and even managed to lock Nakamur..

WRESTLING RUMORS: Update On The Future Of NXT Takeover

That’s a big step. There have been all kinds of changes throughout WWE over the last year and a half with one of the biggest changed areas being down in NXT. The show is now back to the developmental territory that it was before, which has marked quite the shakeup for everyone involved. There are still a few similarities to the old days though, and now we might be seeing another one. According to Wrestlenomics’ Brandon Thurston, NXT will present the first Takeover of NXT 2.0 on Sunday December 5, though there is no word on if the Takeover name will continue to be used. NXT was reset as NXT 2.0 in September with several new wrestlers and nearly everything being changed. Takeover has been presented regularly since 2014, with the most recent taking place on August 22. Tentative date for the first NXT 2.0 Takeover is Sunday, December 5, according to multiple sources. Have asked but couldn’t confirm if “Takeover” will continue to be the brand name. — Brandon Thurston (@BrandonThurston) N..

REVIEW: NXT Takeover: Phoenix: The Desert Classic

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Takeover: Phoenix Date: January 26, 2019 Location: Talking Stick Resort Arena, Phoenix, Arizona Commentators: Nigel McGuinness, Percy Watson, Mauro Ranallo I don’t think I need to waste your time suggesting that this show might be awesome. Takeover has raised their standard up so high that there’s no reason to suggest that it’s going to be anything less than great. The question now is how great, which should make for a heck of an evening. Let’s get to it. The opening video focuses on the desert, where it’s hot, d..

Shakeup? WWE Pushing For A Change For Walter

I would want him too. WWE has one of the deepest rosters in the wrestling world and that allows them to do a few different things. If nothing else, it allows them to try out different wrestlers in different spots and see what they can do with them. Some of these possibilities can be rather interesting and now WWE seems to have something else in mind for their future plans. According to PWInsider.com, some people in WWE are attempting to get NXT UK’s Walter to be added to the NXT roster. This comes after Walter lost the United Kingdom Title to Ilja Dragunov at NXT Takeover 36, ending his two plus year reign. However, it is not known if this will take place, as Walter has previously made it clear that he has no desire to move to the United States. Walter would be pretty great in NXT. Check out what he has done in WWE: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: I’m not sure if Walter is ac..

Adam Cole: The Next Undisputed AEW Star?

Adam Cole was defeated by former Undisputed ERA teammate Kyle O’Reilly at NXT TakeOver 36. The event took place on August 22. It marked the third time the two squared off since Cole betrayed O’Reilly at Vengeance Day on February 14. So now the feud is over and perhaps so is Cole’s NXT career. Per Figure Four Online, Cole’s WWE contact is reportedly up and many fans are speculating on what his next move will be. Is Adam Cole on his way to AEW? [This post contains video, click to play] AEW’s Growing Locker Room It’s quite possibly the single most asked question of exiting WWE stars of the past two years. Since AEW’s birth and growth in the industry, Tony Khan’s company has become a landing spot for several ex-WWE talents. It’s a situation that has played out many times and it’s likely not going to end anytime soon. Critics of AEW cite the company’s penchant for signing former WWE stars as the reason for Khan’s success. After all, WWE stars have had the benefit of working for a much ..

WWE RUMOR: Why Karrion Kross Wore That Mask On Monday Night Raw

Call it a choice? There are certain things about wrestlers that almost everyone is going to notice, which makes them all the more important. A wrestler has to be put together in the right way or they are not going to be the most well received. One of the most important aspects is how the wrestler looks, with the wrong look having the potential to be quite the problem. Now we know the idea behind a recent change. This week on Monday Night Raw, Karrion Kross came to the ring wearing a special mask and wearing new gear. According to Andrew Zarian, the new gear was introduced as a way to market Kross, as every wrestler must be marketable for the purposes of things like clothing, toys and imaging. Kross would go on to defeat Ricochet in less than a minute and a half. The win came one day after he lost the NXT Title to Samoa Joe at NXT Takeover 36. Spoke to a source regarding Kross’s new ring gear. His response : “Everything & everyone must be marketable. Toys, shirts, imaging, and acces..

Historic Title Changes Take Place At NXT Takeover 36

Things are shifting a bit. We are in the middle of a very transitional period for NXT and that could make for quite the different future. That means things are going to be moving around in a bunch of new directions. Some of those changes could be made with a big match, perhaps in the form of some title changes, which is what happened during this weekend’s Takeover. There were four title matches during NXT Takeover 36 and three of the titles changed hands. First up, Cameron Grimes defeated LA Knight to win the Million Dollar Title. Had Knight won, he would have gained Ted DiBiase as his manager. Next, Ilja Dragunov defeated Walter, ending Walter’s record 870 day reign. Finally, Samoa Joe defeated Karrion Kross to win the NXT Title for a record third time in the main event. One champion retained their title, with Raquel Gonzalez retaining the Women’s Title over Dakota Kai. It was a busy night. Check out the new champions: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains..

VIDEO: Another Former Champion Makes NXT Debut

The next step. There are several different levels to the WWE structure and you can see the path that a wrestler takes up through the ranks. You can often figure out how this is going to go, though NXT UK has added a new level to the ladder. Sometimes you will see a wrestler come from the United Kingdom and move up the ranks, which was the case again this weekend. Sunday at NXT Takeover 36, Raquel Gonzalez defeated Dakota Kai to retain the NXT Women’s Title. After the match, former NXT UK Women’s Champion Kay Lee Ray appeared on the stage for a staredown with Gonzalez. While not confirmed, this would suggest that Ray has been moved to the NXT roster. Ray holds the record for the longest reign in the history of the NXT UK Women’s Title, having held the title for 649 days. This could be a big one. Check out the title match, plus what might be coming for Gonzalez and the title: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains vi..

NXT Takeover: 36 Live Coverage And Results

Takeover 36 Date: August 22, 2021 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Beth Phoenix, Vic Joseph, Wade Barrett This might be the last version of the classic Takeover that we see and that is rather saddening. Takeover has been so special for such a long time but things in NXT are going to be shaken up in the near future. If this is it, they’re going out with a pretty big card, with three matches you could call the main event. Let’s get to it. Kickoff Show: Ridge Holland vs. Trey Baxter Pete Dunne is here with Holland. Baxter charges straight at him to start and gets tossed with a suplex. Holland drops a knee and hits him in the face but Baxter is back up with a running knee to the face. A Tajiri handspring elbow is countered with a headbutt to the back of the head though and Northern Grit finishes for Holland at 1:45. Result: Ridge Holland b. Trey Baxter – Northern Grit (1:45) Post match Holland says that is a direct look into Timothy Thatcher’s future. ..

NXT Takeover 36 Preview, Predictions And Thoughts

It’s weird to see NXT as the big closer for the weekend, as Rampage was big enough and then we had Summerslam for one of the most important shows of the year. That leaves us with Takeover: 36 and I’m really not feeling the card this time. It seems pretty clear that NXT as we know it is going to be going away, so this very well may be the big farewell for the current NXT. I’m not sure if that is the worst thing in the world either. Let’s get to it. Kickoff Show: Ridge Holland vs. Trey Baxter This was added over the weekend and it can serve as the appetizer for the show. That is an appropriate description too, as Holland is likely to devour Baxter. The limited stuff I’ve seen from Baxter has been pretty good, but Holland seems ready to be elevated into a bigger star around here, meaning I’m pretty sure you can already figure out how the match is likely to go. The monster is back: [This post contains video, click to play] This should be a nearly complete squash for Holland, who needs ..

WATCH: Nasty Injury Takes Place During This Week’s NXT

Hopefully it isn’t too bad. Injuries can happen at any time in a sport as physical as wrestling. There is no way to be completely safe during a match as there is always the chance of some sort of a fluke injury. Some of these are much worse than others, but there are also going to be some more minor injuries which grab your attention in a hurry. The latter was the case this week. Ilja Dragunov was busted open during a match on this week’s NXT. During a match against Roderick Strong, Dragunov was elbowed in the face, drawing blood from above his right eye. Dragunov was able to finish the match, eventually pinning Strong with the Torpedo Moscow. Later in the night, WWE announced that Dragunov received eight stitches to close the wound and is medically cleared for his United Kingdom Title match against Walter at NXT Takeover 36 this coming Sunday. It was a nasty injury. Check out the match, plus what you might be seeing on Sunday: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post ..

Three New Stipulations Added To NXT TakeOver 36

Your pick. There are a lot of ways to present a huge grudge match and that can make things all the more interesting. If a match has been done before, the best idea might be to slap some kind of special rules onto the rematch, which could make things all the more intense. WWE has certainly figured out how to do this most of the time and now we are going to see more than one version at once. During this week’s edition of NXT, General Manager William Regal announced that Kyle O’Reilly and Adam Cole will face off in a 2/3 falls match at Takeover 36 on August 22. Each fall will feature a special stipulation, with both wrestlers and Regal getting to pick a stipulation each. As a result, O’Reilly picked a traditional match, Cole chose a street fight and Regal announced a steel cage match should the match go three falls. The match is being billed as the Undisputed Finale and will be the last match between the two. Cole and O’Reilly both came into NXT in the summer of 2007 along with Bobby Fi..

Another New Title Grudge Match Added To NXT Takeover 36

That’s where they’re going next. We are less than two weeks away from NXT Takeover 36 and this could be the last time you see the show in this format. There seem to be quite a few changes coming to NXT and that could mean we are in for some very different looking Takeovers in the future. At least this one is looking good and now we have another match set for the show. This week on NXT, Ted DiBiase interrupted LA Knight and Cameron Grimes. DiBiase said that he wanted to see Grimes figure out a way out of being Knight’s butler because he was too good to be stuck there. Knight eventually agreed to give Grimes another shot at the Million Dollar Title at Takeover 36, but this time, DiBiase would become Knight’s butler if Grimes lost. Despite Grimes’ protests, DiBiase agreed to the terms. Knight has defeated Grimes in their past two title matches. There is certainly a history here. Check out how we got here: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to p..
