Ric Flair Explains Who The Top 4 Wrestlers In The World Are Today
If there is anyone who can spot wrestling talent, it has to be the “Nature Boy” Ric Flair. Widely considered by many to be the greatest professional wrestler of all time, a blessing from him in the business is like Michael Jordan telling you that you’re the best basketball player alive.
Flair recently sat down with Gamespot to talk his history in the business and where WWE is at right now. When asked about who is the best wrestler in the world today, he picked out four names instantaneously.
“It’s one of four people: Randy Orton, A.J. Styles, my daughter [Charlotte], and Seth Rollins. I didn’t even have to think twice about that. Orton is just one of the most gifted guys I’ve ever seen. Orton brings the whole package. He’s 6’4″, phenomenal body, he’s a good talker and a phenomenal in-ring performer. Seth Rollins is the same, just a little bit smaller. A.J. is close to being Shawn Michaels in terms of work ethic. He’s really good and his interviews have gotten better. And then, my daughter…I’m not pushing her. She doesn’t need me to push her. You’ve seen her, she’s real good. The other girls just have a hard time keeping up with her.”
None of these options should be too surprising. Though Orton’s name being in the running might raise some eyebrows, Flair worked closely with Randy during his days in the early 2000’s with Evolution. And if Flair says Orton is one of the best out there, who is anyone else to disagree?
AJ Styles is the name that would probably win a poll of wrestling experts today when this question is brought up, so Flair’s inclusion of the Phenomenal One is not surprising. The two once tag teamed during Flair’s run with TNA and even fought in the ring.
Similar to Styles, Seth Rollins is a performer who is known around the industry as a work horse. Though his name was thrown around in these types of lists regularly before he tore up his knee, he has steadily worked his way back toward the top of the business.
Finally, Charlotte could certainly lay claim to being one of the best female performers in wrestling. If you are to compare her to her male counterparts, she often does moves that some of the guys could only dream of (the moonsault off the top rope to the outside comes to mind). Flair might be a bit biased to speak this way of his daughter, but he’s not exactly wrong either.
