Tribute To The Troops 2022

It’s time for another of the annual holiday specials, though in this case this was tacked on after a TV taping over a month ago. These shows are basically short form house shows with a healthy dose of “WE LOVE THE TROOPS” thrown in. There are almost no expectations for one of them as a result so let’s get to it.
We get the presentation of the colors and Star Spangled Banner, led by someone who sang it at the 2009 Tribute To The Troops.
The opening video looks at the history of Tribute To The Troops, featuring several clips from the original shows and not so many from the recent editions.
Braun Strowman vs. LA Knight Strowman throws him around to start but misses a charge into the corner. Knight goes after the knee but Strowman shrugs it off. The Monsterbomb finishes Knight at 2:05.

The following are spoilers for the December 23, 2022 edition of Smackdown, which was taped in Chicago last evening:
Raquel Rodriguez won a gauntlet match to become the number one contender for the SmackDown Women’s title. Xia Li beat Emma and Tegan Nox. Raquel defeated Li, Liv Morgan, and Sonya Deville to win the match. Shayna Baszler came out as a surprise entrant, but Rodriguez defeated her as well. Bray Wyatt came out and said that LA Knight owes him an apology. He ends up attacking the camera man. Rey Mysterio defeated Angel of Los Lotharios. Karrion Kross and Scarlett were watching in the crowd. Roman Reigns and the rest of The Bloodline came out for a promo. Solo Sikoa vs. Sheamus was added to the December 30 show in Tampa. During the promo, Zayn said that Kevin Owens was like a black cloud that is still following him. The Usos defeated Hit Row to retain the WWE Undisputed Tag Team titles. Braun Strowman and Ricochet defeated Imperium in a Miracle on 34th Street Fight. Presents ..

We’re almost done with the year and the interesting point here came from Tony Khan, who promised to put in some more effort on this show. I’m not sure what that is going to mean, but the card certainly does look to be a bit bigger than usual. That might not last beyond a week or two, but I’ll take what I can get. Let’s get to it.
Opening sequence.
Jon Moxley vs. Sammy Guevara Tay Melo is here too. Guevara knees him in the face to start and bites away in the corner. That earns Guevara a clothesline to the floor as we see Daniel Garcia, now under Guevara’s tutelage, watching in the back. Moxley is happy with fighting outside and loads up a chair, only to be sent back inside. That’s fine with Moxley, who grabs a jumping cutter into a superplex for two.
Guevara manages to backflip over him though and hits a dropkick out to the floor. A hard stomp on the apro..

He has an idea. There are some great wrestling stars who are no longer active wrestlers. That does not mean their careers are over though, as there are other roles that they can fill once their in-ring career is over. However, there are still some moments where an ex-wrestler is the perfect choice to put back in the ring, and now one legend thinks that might be the right move.

The end of this week’s Monday Night Raw featured Bobby Lashley shoving a referee who he blamed for a loss to Seth Rollins. As a result, WWE executive Adam Pearce came to the ring and fired Lashley, only to reinstate him the next day. During a recent edition of Busted Open Radio, WWE Hall Of Famer Bubba Ray Dudley suggested that Pearce could face Lashley in a match. Pearce, 44 years old and a former five time NWA World Champion, retired from full time competition in 2014 but wrestled two matches for WWE in 202..

This is from Prestige Wrestling, a promotion out of the northwest with some names I’ve actually heard of for a change. I’m not sure what to expect from this but that can make it more fun at times. Another kind of match. There are a lot of ways to describe a wrestler but one that would come up as often as any other might be tough. Wrestlers are athletes who have to make you believe they are in a real fight, which can be rather tricky at times. On occasion, they have to do something very legitimate, and that was the case in a much more serious situation for a wrestling legend.

During a new interview with Wrestlinginc.com, WWE Hall of Famer Jim Duggan revealed that a man broke into his home on December 8 at around 6:45pm, armed with a gun. Duggan took the man down and took the gun from him, holding him at gunpoint until the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Department arrived to arrest the man. Duggan said that the intruder was frightened as people from a nearby home were attempting to kill him and entered the home after pounding on several other nearby doors. You won’t be seeing him for a bit. There are a lot of different dimensions to wrestling, but at the end of the day, it is a physical sport that can cause a lot of damage to the wrestlers themselves. You never know when you might see someone get injured and be put on the shelf. Sometimes wrestlers need to get a piece of themselves fixed up and that seems to have taken place again.

AEW’s Griff Garrison has revealed that he underwent a surgery in North Carolina this week. Garrison did not reveal the nature of his injury or how long he expected to be on the shelf recovering. Garrison, 24 years old, has not wrestled since the October 21 edition of AEW Dark, though there is no word on if the surgery is related to his recent absence from the ring.

Out of her league? After a seven month ordeal, it seems that Sasha Banks’ time with WWE is about to come to an end. While there is always the chance that something could change at the last minute, Banks seems to be heading over to New Japan Pro Wrestling, ending her ten year tenure with the company. Now we might know an important detail that led to the two sides splitting.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, one of the issues involved the value of the contract Banks was looking to receive. Banks reportedly wanted a deal close to the same value as Charlotte and Becky Lynch, but was not being offered numbers near those. Internally, WWE is said to not believe that Banks, 30, will be a top star for the next five years. During her time in WWE, Banks headlined multiple pay per views, including the first night of WrestleMania 37.

The quick reveal. There are certain angles in wrestling that come up every so often and will work pretty much every time. One of the best is a mystery, as it gives the fans a reason to keep watching to see where things are going. However, there are also instances where the reveal is given very quickly, which was the situation this week as the mystery lasted about an hour.

The opening match of this week’s SmackDown saw Tegan Nox and Liv Morgan challenging Damage Ctrl for the Women’s Tag Team Titles. Late in the match, a mystery woman in black attacked Nox, ultimately costing her team the match. Security took the mystery woman away and, in a digital exclusive, she was revealed as SmackDown star Xia Li. WWE executive Adam Pearce ordered her into his office to end the video.

We are just over a month away from the Royal Rumble and it’s time for a pretty big title match on the way there. This week will see Gunther defend the Intercontinental Title against World Cup winner Ricochet, which should make for a solid main event. Other than that, Roman Reigns is here so let’s get to it.

Opening sequence.
Women’s Tag Team Titles: Damage Ctrl vs. Liv Morgan/Tegan Nox Damage Ctrl, with Bayley, is defending. Nox takes over on Sky to start and hits a gordbuster, setting up a double suplex for a near fall. Morgan comes in and knocks Sky to the floor, where she gives chase with the kendo stick. Both champs are sent outside for the big dive from Nox and we take a break.
Back with Nox having to fight out of trouble and handing it off to Morgan to pick up the pace. Morgan nips up out of the corner but gets caught in a dou..
