REVIEW: Starrcade 1998: It All Comes Crashing Down

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net, starting today. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be?

It’s the biggest show of the year and I don’t know how many people know about it. I don’t remember the same show feeling so different just a year later. Last year Starrcade felt like an event rather than just a wrestling show. This year it feels like it could be a Clash of the Champions TV special instead of the biggest show of the year. I have a very ..

We’re FINALLY here after six weeks of buildup. It’s a double main event with Warrior and Hogan in the battle for Hollywood’s sanity and ego as well as Diamond Dallas Page challenging Goldberg for the World Title. However the show is remembered far more for something that had nothing to do with the wrestling. Let’s get to it.

KB’s Review: Happy 20th Anniversary Wrestling Edition

The major focal point of this week’s Monday Night Raw was the 20th anniversary of Randy Orton’s WWE debut. That is a moment certainly worthy of special attention and WWE kind of nailed it, with a great tribute to Orton plus he got to dominate the main event, winning with a string of RKO’s. In something that has never been a good thing, this got me to thinking about some stuff.
Monday was indeed the 20th anniversary of Orton’s WWE debut and it made me wonder how many more of these anniversary shows we should be seeing. When you think about it, 2002 is as influential of a year on modern wrestling as you are going to find. There are all kinds of things that deserve some special attention and that is what we are going to be looking at this week.
This list is not meant to be exhaustive and is in no random order save for the very last one.

We’re back with more Bullet Club Civil War this week as Jay White’s Japanese contingent doesn’t think much of the Elite. That contingent might have gained someone new in Chris Bey this week, which could make for something interesting going forward. White felt like a star last week and hopefully he can keep that up this time. Let’s get to it.
The opening recap looks at Jay White showing up and going after the Elite, with Chris Bey saving him to end the show.
Scott D’Amore has something big planned for tonight but says everyone is asking him for something. Tommy Dreamer comes up to ask about the #1 contendership but D’Amore walks away on the phone.
Good Brothers vs. Chris Bey/Jay White Non-title. White and Anderson start things off with the feeling out process until White chops away in the corner. Bey comes in for the kicks to the ribs into a nice dropkick. Ander..
