NJPW News: Tanahashi Injured, Night 1 Of BOSJ Free, Honma, Shibata, & More
Hiroshi Tanahashi Injured
It looks like Hiroshi Tanahashi suffered an injury during Sunday’s Ring Of Honor television tapings, and no, he didn’t sprain his ponytail. ROH doctors at the arena checked him out, and it looks like a biceps injury, hopefully not a tear (and if it is, hopefully not a full one). Tana is scheduled to face Tetsuya Naito at Dominion on June 11th for the IWGP Intercontinental Championship. Last year, Tana had to pull out of Dominion due to a shoulder injury.
Here’s hoping for a speedy and full recovery for Tana, whatever the actual injury is.
Night 1 Of NJPW Best Of The Super Juniors XXIV Free On NJPW World
The NJPW Best Of The Super Juniors XXIV Tournament kicks off tomorrow, and NJPW is offering night one free to everyone, even if you are not subscribed to NJPW World. The show kicks off at 5:30 am EDT Wednesday morning and is comprised of all tournament matches. We will have a full preview of night one later on today.
Honma & Shibata Injury Updates
As we all know, Tomoaki Honma and Katsuyori Shibata suffered serious, career threatening injuries this year. Back in March, Honma suffered a neck injury that resulted in temporary paralysis after being hit with a hanging DDT from Jado at a house show. In the latest news, Honma has already started to train for a comeback to the ring.
As for Shibata, who suffered a subdural hemotoma during his IWGP Heavyweight Championship match at Sakura Genesis and underwent two separate surgeries to relieve the pressure on his brain, there is no timetable for his return. It is believed that Shibata will never be cleared by doctors to return to in-ring action.
