The NJPW Best Of The Super Juniors XXIV tournament continued today on NJPW World, and it was all about A Block. Today’s show from Osaka’s Osaka Perfectural Gym #2 (Edion Arena Osaka) was main evented by Will Ospreay facing off against current IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Hiromu Takahashi.

Other A Block tournament matches included Ricochet facing Marty Scurll, Dragon Lee taking on TAKA Michinoku, and Jushin “Thunder” Liger and Taichi squaring off.

NJPW Best Of The Super Juniors XXIV Day 12 Results

El Desperado & Yoshinobu Kanemaru defeated ACH & Volador Jr.

KUSHIDA, Ryusuke Taguchi, & Juice Robinson defeated BUSHI, EVIL & SANADA.

Bad Luck Fale, Tanga Loa, & Tama Tonga defeated David Finlay & War Machine.

Yujiro Takahashi & Kenny Omega defeated Gedo & Kazuchika Okada.

BOSJ A Block Tournament Match
Jushin “Thunder” Liger defeated Taichi.

This was Liger’s last BOSJ match ever, and it was kind of sad that it had to be against Taichi. Of course, Taichi had to break out all the weapons, chairs, mic stands, hammers, and electrical cords, not to mention bringing out Kanemaru and TAKA just to even the odds.

The obligatory ref bump that allowed all three members of SZKG to jump Liger was no big surprise; we’ve pretty much seen this in each and every Taichi match during the tournament. Then the rat bastard Taichi got scissors, cut one of Liger’s horns off, cut his hair, cut his mask, and his costume, but finally, Taichi and crew comes out to even the odds. Liger channels his inner mean and manages to destroy Taichi and win his first and final match in the Best Of The Super Juniors tournament. Nicely done. Liger wins at least one match and knocks Taichi out of contention in the tournament completely.

BOSJ A Block Tournament Match
TAKA Michinoku defeated Dragon Lee.

Good, solid match between Dragon Lee and TAKA. TAKA tried some of his usual tricks, but at least he left Suzuki-gun backstage. Fun, fast-paced bout without a lot of flying from Dragon Lee; TAKA kept him grounded and made this one pretty much a mat game.

TAKA got the win with the Michinoku Driver. TAKA was already out of competition, and his winning over Dragon Lee took the CMLL star out, as well.

BOSJ A Block Tournament Match
Marty Scurll defeated Ricochet.

Fun match from Scurll and Ricochet. Marty dominated through the beginning, and throughout this tournament, he has just been a pleasure to watch. He slid into the Japanese scene seamlessly, and the fans took to him from day one. Not too much flipping in this one; Scurll is more of a grounded, mat based wrestler, but Ricochet managed to get in some beautiful moves.

These two worked a great match and have great chemistry together. I loved it. From the finishing sequences of both men to the false finishes, it was beautifully worked. Ricochet’s frustration at not being able to put Marty away, and Marty’s continued attempts to snap fingers and lock in the Chicken Wing and with hitting a couple of pile drivers along the way just kept things lightning fast and fun. Scurll reversed a roll up into the Chicken Wing and got the submission for the win. With this loss, Ricochet is out of contention in the tournament.

BOSJ A Block Tournament Match
Will Ospreay defeated Hiromu Takahashi to win A Block.

Whoever wins this match wins A Block, and since they did shit with Will’s win last year, I am firmly rooting for Hiromu. He seemed pretty dominant throughout the beginning of the bout, working on Will’s legs to keep him grounded. This one had just enough craziness in it to keep the fans cheering and just enough scary spots to keep them on the edge of their seats.

I enjoyed Marty and Ricochet more than this one, but this was good. Will took Hiromu’s powerbomb from the apron the floor, and Hiromu took Will’s shooting star press from the apron to the floor. Both looked a bit painful. These two fought hard, but it was the springboard OsCutter that won the match and won Will Ospreay A Block.
