AEW star and pro wrestling veteran MVP recently appeared on an installment of his Marking Out podcast, where he touched on various topics, including his return to the ring and the approach of his final bout.
MVP said, “Let’s be real. I’m 52.. Meanwhile, I don’t want to get powerbombed and chokeslammed. In a connected development, i don’t want to sprint back and forth across the ring. I don’t want to do that. I don’t take bookings for matches anymore, and i’m not officially retired. Although that’s coming. I’m thinking probably next year I will have my final battle. I’m pretty confident — to add further context, my final match is coming soon.”
On lacking the explosiveness in the ring he used to have:
“Physically, my ability to wrestle at a high level is deteriorating owing to time. This is Father Time.. Meanwhile, I don’t have the explosiveness that I used to. Additionally, i don’t have the desire, let me be real with you.
If Tony says, ‘Hey, I want you, Bobby and Shelton to do a trios match,’ I’m ready, in particular if I’m doing a tag match. What's more, my passion for actually getting in the ring and having that battle isn’t what it used to be. Yeah, I can give you that. If Tony said, ‘Hey, as a gift to you, for your career on the way out the door, I’d like to give you an AEW Gold title run,’ I would say no.”
