Kenny Omega’s First US Title Defense In America; Shawn Michaels On NXT
Omega Will Defend U.S. Title In Chicago
Kenny Omega will defend his IWGP United States Championship “for the first time on U.S. soil” this October. Ring of Honor (ROH) announced he will compete at its Global Wars 2017: Chicago event, scheduled for Sunday, October 15 at the Odeum Expo Center. With Omega’s addition, ROH may be expecting a larger crowd turnout since the Odeum Expo Center is a larger venue. Omega’s challenger was not announced, but it seems we can expect him to retain the championship through October.
Omega is the inaugural IWGP United States Champion, having won it during the two-day G1 Climax Special tournament earlier this month.

Shawn Michaels On NXT
Shawn Michaels traveled with the NXT roster last weekend and sat down with Kayla Braxton for an exclusive Facebook Live chat from St. Paul, Minnesota. Michaels acknowledged the NXT crowd as “rebellious, rowdy, and very sort of protective group” compared to the main roster audience. He also namedropped Johnny Gargano, Roderick Strong, Velveteen Dream, Asuka, Ember Moon, and Nikki Cross among the current NXT talent that standout. Michaels also mentioned Abbey Laith and Sage Beckett, both competing in the Mae Young Classic, as “sleepers” and names to look out for.
He advised anyone interested in wrestling to jump on any opportunity provided but understand there is a mindset and culture that already exists.
