In a follow up to a story we reported on last month, Florida independent wrestler Richard Delicious (real name Wayne VanDyke) has passed away. VanDyke collapsed after competing in a match at an independent event for the Ronin Promotion on Saturday, April 29th, and was rushed to Memorial Regional Hospital. It was believed at the time that the 29-year old suffered a heart attack and was put into a medically induced coma upon his arrival at the hospital.

Beginning his career in 2010, VanDyke has been a consistent feature on the Florida independent scene for some time, performing on a weekly basis for American Combat Wrestling at the Gulfview Event Center. He has won ACW’s Light Heavyweight Championship, Cruiserweight Championship (x2), and also represented a host of other promotions such as Full Impact Pro, Ronin, Full Throttle Pro Wrestling, and Orlando City Wrestling.

VanDyke also did work behind the scenes for a number of the WWN-affiliated promotions. WWN had just announced that any money raised that exceeded the expenses incurred from their next few shows would be donated to VanDyke and his medical expenses.

All of us here at Top Rope Press send out our condolences to the friends and family of Wayne VanDyke.
