WWE could be preparing for a significant change within its creative leadership following WrestleMania 43, with Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels reportedly being lined up to replace longtime executive Bruce Prichard.
As previously relayed, Prichard is expected to step away from his full-time position as WWE’s Executive Director of Creative Writing & Talent following The Grandest Stage of Them All 43 in 2027. Although he is reportedly planning to retire from his present responsibilities, Prichard is expected to maintain a relationship with the company through a consulting role — potentially working remotely from his home in Texas.
Per PWInsider, multiple sources have indicated that WWE already has a succession plan in place, with Michaels slated to assume Prichard’s responsibilities once the veteran executive steps down.
Overseeing the NXT brand, michaels currently serves as WWE’s Senior Vice President of Talent Development and Creative. The 61-year-long-standing has played a prominent role in the company’s developmental system since taking charge of NXT’s creative direction in September 2021.
A longtime friend and close associate of WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque, Michaels has received considerable praise for his work behind the scenes, particularly his involvement in developing younger talent and shaping NXT’s weekly television programming.
The report suggests that the potential transition got weighed in on internally for some time, with Michaels anticipated to spend the coming months preparing for the expanded responsibilities.
Nevertheless, one major question surrounding the affirmed succession plan is who would replace Michaels as the person responsible for overseeing NXT. No potential successor has been identified, and it remains unclear how WWE would restructure the developmental brand’s leadership if Michaels moves into Prichard’s position.
Should the move go ahead, Michaels would take on a considerably larger role within WWE’s creative structure, marking another important development in his executive career.
Prichard has been one of WWE’s most influential in the gorilla position area figures across several decades — working closely with Vince McMahon during multiple periods of the company’s history. His anticipated departure from full-time duties would represent a notable change within WWE’s creative and talent management operations.
Meanwhile, Michaels has successfully transitioned into an executive role following his hall-of-fame caliber wrestling career. The former WWE Title holder retired from full-time competition in 2010 before returning for a one-off contest in Saudi Arabia in 2018.
Although WWE has not officially confirmed the covered leadership changes, the potential promotion would further strengthen Michaels’ position within the company and place him alongside Triple H as one of the key figures shaping WWE’s creative future.
The covered transition appears poised to take place following The Grandest Stage of Them All 43, although the exact timetable and details of Michaels’ potential brand-new responsibilities have yet to be formally made known.
