CM Punk’s Legal Battle Against WWE Costing Tons of Money
CM Punk’s legal case against WWE Physician, Dr Chris Amann is apparently costing Punk a lot of money. According to Chris Harrington of Fightful.com, WWE has submitted an application for half of the $241,007 in attorney fees and costs to be paid by CM Punk a.k.a Phillip Brooks.
In February, this past year, Punk and Scott Colton a.k.a Colt Cabana gave out a subpoena to the WWE for all communications and other documents on topics related to this case. In June of this year, WWE submitted an application for the expenditure that “WWE was forced to incur in connection with responding to the subpoena” amounting to $241,007.
Apparently, a Judge had earlier announced that WWE and Punk would have to split 50/50 the aforementioned money. Hence, this leads to the fact that Punk has to pay $120,503.26 to the WWE.
However, Punk has refused to pay the said expenses by filing claims saying that the WWE had included “expenses for resisting the subject subpoena and for other work that could not benefit Brooks” and “expenses for time entries that are excessive for the task performed.” Additionally, he has offered to pay 33% of the expenses that amount to $39,776.
The lawsuit filed by Amann against Punk and Cabana in 2015 after the infamous podcast in which Punk called out Amann, was him asking for “compensatory damages in an amount in excess of $1,000,000, punitive damages in an amount to be determined at trial and such other relief that the Court deems just and appropriate.”
According to Amann, the accusations made by Punk “has increased his insurance premium approximately 63%, quadrupled his deductible, and his policy has less favorable terms including, without limitation, the elimination of his right to consent to settle any future claims” and several other carriers “have declined to offer coverage to Amann as result of the statements published by Brooks and Colton or have offered coverage only on terms even less favorable.”
Amann has also stated that he has experienced several medical problems such as anxiety, stress, loss of sleep and weight because of the accusations made by Punk and Cabana. He also believes that a promotion in his current job with the WWE seems very difficult to get.
He also claimed that Kevin Steen/Owens in specific, came in to ask him if he had actually committed such malpractices and that all this has hurt his reputation immensely.
