A listener calls into the show and tells Taz says that he considers him to be one of his favourite four wrestlers of all time. The caller says that ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin, Undertaker, Ultimate Warrior and Taz are his top four. Taz genuinely thanks the caller, and says that those other three guys are unbelievable company to be in.
Taz comments on Steve Harvey’s recent email to his staff, where he told them to respect his privacy while filming the upcoming fifth season of his talk show. Taz thought this was terrific and jokes that he’s going to send a similar email to all of his staff. He doesn’t have a dressing room like Harvey, but he will find a way to seclude himself from the rest of his staff.
Another listener calls into the show and tells Taz that he gets a lot of heat from his friends and family for being an adult who still watches professional wrestling. Taz urges the callers to ask his friends and family if they enjoy watching television shows or films, because it’s all the same as professional wrestling. It’s simply a form of entertainment, and there are plenty of intelligent adults who watch wrestling on a weekly basis.
Russo is joined on today’s show by his co-host Jeff Lane.
Russo points out the Meltzer reported this past week that Alberto Del Rio and Paige had an argument somewhere in Florida. Russo says that this is not news, and it’s just another example of a wrestling ‘journalist’ who is making up a story when there’s no story to be told.
Lane points out that someone tweeted Dave Meltzer this past week, asking him for his opinion on Russo. Meltzer’s response was, “Life’s too short to worry about people desperate for attention”. Russo says that Meltzer’s responses to these fans are so lame. Russo adds that for someone who’s starving for attention, he’s doing a poor job because he just moved into a cabin in the woods.
Lane reads some comments from a recent Reddit thread, where fans discuss the differences between the attitude era and the today’s product.
One fan says that this era’s product is superior to the attitude era because there are better stories, promos, and matches. In addition, the attitude era was a racist, sexist product which was overly aggressive in an attempt to appeal to the ECW fanbase.
Russo says that he can’t even name one storyline that’s occurring on RAW at the moment. RAW was drawing a 6.0-7.0 rating back during the attitude era, and the notion that they were trying to copy ECW which was drawing a 0.8 rating doesn’t make any sense to him.
According to PWInsider, R-Truth is all set to start his own show on the WWE Network. The series might end up hitting the Network by early fall.
WWE has secretly filmed the pilot for the new show already. The show is supposed to be some kind of a game show which will make it the first of its kind on the WWE Network.
With WWE looking to make the Network more big of a deal, shows like these might end up helping it garner more subscriptions and viewers.
Also, R-Truth is one of the most entertaining superstars on the roster, hence choosing him to be the host of shows like these is a wise move by the company.
Former WWE Superstar Ricardo Rodriguez announced on Facebook that he has retired from in-ring competition.
He wrote, “So I have decided to hang up the boots and just train/teach. I’m better at that, anyways, plus real life is getting in the way.”
For those who don’t remember, Rodriguez was part of Alberto Del Rio’s act as his personal ring announcer during Alberto’s first run with the company. WWE and Rodriguez parted ways on July 30, 2014. Since his departure, he has been working the indie circuit.
Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman are being advertised for the July 3rd RAW event, while John Cena is being advertised for the July 4th SmackDown Live show.
As noted yesterday, both shows are being held at the Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix, Arizona. WWE is offering a two-for-one deal on the tickets because the feeling is it will be hard to get people in on a holiday week.
The RAW event is the go-home show from the Great Balls of Fire pay-per-view, where Lesnar is being advertised to defend the WWE Universal Championship. Originally, Lesnar was slated to defend that title against Braun Stromwn on the card, whoever those plans are very likely to change. Braun is expected to be out of action for 6-8 weeks to recover from elbow surgery. Finn Balor and Seth Rollins are the top candidates to replace Stromwn on the show.
Cena, who has been off WWE programming since WrestleMania, is out filming movies. With him being advertised for this event, it is possible that he will be returning to WWE television soon. There is no word on who Cena will be feuding with when he returns. We will keep you updated.
