Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that it was Vince McMahon who put together this year’s men’s Royal Rumble match. Jamie Noble and Michael “PS” Hayes also assisted the WWE Chairman with putting the match together.

WWE Hall of Famer Pat Patterson, the individual that created the Rumble match, was also backstage at Sunday’s event to offer his expertise.

Bayley, who was once pinned to be one of the top WWE Superstars in the women’s division, was featured on WWE Main Event this week where she defeated Sonya Deville in the opening match. To many, WWE Main Event is seen as secondary programming but Bayley doesn’t seem to think so.

Bayley decided to address the grief she has received from haters on social media about her appearance on the show and tried to set the record straight in a positive manner.

She wrote, “Guys…let’s get this straight…it’s a GOOD thing I was on #MainEvent. I’ll take any chance I can get to step inside the ring. Especially in a singles match and especially when it ends with a victory ?”

Dave Meltzer reported in the latest issue of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE officials are unhappy about the drop in viewership numbers for their new Facebook Watch series, Mixed Match Challenge. Apparently “key people” in the company are already sour on the tournament.

“Mixed Match Challenge dropped greatly in viewership. Even before this week’s numbers came in, we had heard they were very unhappy about the huge drop from week one to week two and key people were already souring on it. The second show was really bad. This week’s show felt like a harmless gimmick show but there feels like no important reason to watch.”

Here is the breakdown of the numbers since it’s debut:

Episode 1: 135,600
Episode 2: 91,900
Episode 3: 62,400

As you can see by the numbers above, the show is having a downward trend. It will be interesting to see if WWE makes some changes to the show to try to garner more viewers.

Vince McMahon confirmed on Twitter that Ronda Rousey will be at WrestleMania this year. While wishing the former UFC Fighter a ‘Happy Birthday’ on Twitter, he also mentioned that he would see her at Mania’ — seemingly confirming her for the event.

As reported earlier this week, WWE plans to save her in-ring debut for the biggest show of the year. Right now the working plan is for her to be involved in a mixed tag match against Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. Braun Strowman and The Rock are possible names for her tag partner in that match.

Russo is joined on today’s show by his co-host, Jeff Lane.

Russo addresses a tweet sent out by Kevin Gill this past week. Gill implied in the tweet that Russo attracts sexist and racist followers. Russo says that anytime someone says things like this it becomes a personal matter.

Russo’s been married to the same woman for 34 years so he has no idea how he can he be sexist. He says it’s fine to critique his work in the wrestling business, but don’t throw allegations like this around, especially when you don’t know the person you’re talking about. Russo says he hasn’t done a racist or sexist thing in his life.

Lane plays a clip of Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer from this past week, when Meltzer said that nobody goes as far back with the UFC as him and former referee John McCarthy. In the same sentence, Meltzer admitted that he doesn’t work for UFC. Russo laughs hysterically, pointing out that this is classic Meltzer, trying to take credit for things that he has nothing to do with.

WWE heads to the Center Stage in Atlanta, Ga to tape the February 7th to the February 21st episodes of NXT television. Here are the spoiler results:

* Dark match: Street Profits defeated Aichner and Mendoza.

February 7th

* Show opens with Sanity vs. Undisputed. Never gets started. Sanity attacks from the crowd. Massive brawl. Regal comes out and announces Sanity vs. Undisputed in a tornado tag match for the main event.

* Heavy Machinery defeated Tino & Riddick. After the match, Riddick refused to shake Tino’s hand. IIt appears that the team has split.

* Johnny Gargano comes out. Johnny calls out Ciampa, gets Andrade instead. They setup Gargano vs. Almas for the NXT Title. If Gargano loses, he’s out of NXT. Our correspondent said that no mention of Takeover, so it’s possible this match takes place at these set of tapings.

* Bianca defeated Enhancement talent in a quick match.

* Tornado Tag match: Sanity defeats The Undisputed.

Lorcan’s last television match came at the November 29th NXT TV tapings as he and Danny Burch lost to The Authors of Pain.
