Huge Surprise Debut Ends Impact Wrestling Slammiversary

There’s your next big one. The wrestling world has changed a lot in recent years as all kinds of wrestlers are appearing in various promotions. That has shaken things up in a good way as wrestlers get to have matches against wrestlers you might not have been able to see before. It can make for some very exciting debuts and appearances, which was the case again this weekend.
Impact Wrestling’s Slammiversary pay per view ended with Kenny Omega successfully retaining the Impact Wrestling World Title over Sami Callihan. After the match was over, former IWGP Heavyweight Champion and current NEVER Openweight Champion Jay White made his Impact Wrestling debut to confront Omega. Someone was about to run to the ring but the feed went out before anything could happen. According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com, the team of FinJuice came to the ring to brawl with White. Juice Robinson was taken out by White, who left to end the night.

VIDEO: Vince McMahon CRUSHES His Workout At 75 Years Old

He’s still got it. Love him or hate him, there is absolutely no one like Vince McMahon. He is about as unique of a personality as you will ever find with an insane commitment to almost anything he does. This is mostly the case with business and the wrestling world, but McMahon does have a few other interests. One of those was on display recently and is rather impressive.
WWE’s corporate trainer Michael Monteforte has posted a new video to Instagram showing McMahon working out at WWE’s gym in Stamford, Connecticut. McMahon is doing a leg workout in a machine where he is leaning backwards and using his legs to push the weight up. There is now word on when the footage was shot. McMahon appeared on this week’s edition of SmackDown from Houston, Texas.
This is pretty impressive. Check out McMahon’s workout, plus some other stars in training:

VIDEO: Bonus SmackDown Footage During Commercials

The show isn’t over. WWE TV is a rather complicated production as you do not know what you are going to see on a given night. That can make things a lot more interesting than one might expect, if nothing else because the fans in person get to see something extra. They certainly did this week, as WWE’s cameras kept rolling when the show was taking a break.
WWE has released a series of videos featuring footage during the commercial breaks of this week’s SmackDown. The three clips feature the United States Champion Apollo Crews with Commander Azeez, Liv Morgan and Kevin Owens and Big E. Crews and Azeez did not appear during the show, but the others all made appearances either in a match or at ringside as part of another one. This week’s SmackDown was the first with fans in attendance since March 2020.
There is some cool stuff here. Check out what you didn’t get to see at home:

Rock And Roman Reigns May Be In A Tag Match

It’s a way to go. This weekend, WWE will be holding its annual Money In The Bank pay per view. That alone is big enough, but Summerslam takes place just over later. Even with that show not being very far away, WWE is already thinking about WrestleMania 38 next April. That is pretty far in advance, but WWE already might have a huge match scheduled for the show.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE is considering a tag team match involving the Rock and Roman Reigns facing each other at WrestleMania 38. The match would see both wrestlers teaming with an Uso, possibly in an attempt to keep Rock from having to do so much in the ring to protect his movie commitments. While the match has been discussed, WWE’s main goal would still be having the two face off in a singles match.
There is a certain history there. Check out the family together:

WATCH: Emotional Moment After This Week’s SmackDown

It is worth a special moment. This week’s edition of SmackDown featured the return of fans to WWE events for the first time since March 2020. That was a very important moment for the company and you knew that WWE was going to do something special for the occasion. There were some surprise moments on the show, but one of the best parts took place after the show went off the air.
Following this week’s edition of SmackDown, Big E. and several wrestlers stayed in the ring, with Big E. addressing the crowd. Big E. talked about how the WWE had been wrestling in front of screens for the last year plus but now the fans were back. He could not think of a better place to return than in Houston and thanked the fans for their energy to end the night.
It was an important show. Check out Big E.’s speech and some more moments from the night:

REVIEW: Great American Bash 2005: Story Time

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be?
Great American Bash 2005
Date: July 24, 2005
Location: HSBC Arena, Buffalo, New York
Attendance: 8,000
Commentators: Michael Cole, Tazz
It’s their patriotic show, which isn’t likely to mean much in regards to anything more than the name. The official main event is Batista defending the World Title against JBL but the real main event is Eddie Guerrero vs. Rey Mysterio over the secret that Guerrero wants to tell Rey’s son Dominic. I’m not seeing a great show here, but it could be lot worse. Let’s get to it.

VIDEO: Alberto Del Rio’s Explosive Allegations Against Paige

That’s rather intimidating. There are a lot of people in the wrestling world and some of them are well known not only for what they do in the ring, but also what happens outside of it. Sometimes that can be a very bad situation, which has been the case with a former couple of wrestlers. Even though their relationship has ended, things might not be quite done.
Alberto Del Rio and Paige were involved in a romantic relationship from at least May 2016 until December 2017, during which the two were engaged to be married. During their time together, the two had various issues and altercations, including drug issues and alleged domestic violence events. The two ultimately split up but the allegations have continued since. Now Del Rio is at it again with some strong claims.
In a new interview with Hannibal TV, Del Rio opened up about his previous issues with Paige. Del Rio claimed that he and Paige had a one million dollar confidentiality agreement, which has since been broken. As a result, ..

VIDEO: Vince McMahon’s Special SmackDown Opening

The stars are out. The biggest WWE story of the week is the return of fans to live events. This has been a very long time in the making and it is pretty cool to see it finally taking place. WWE has been building towards it for weeks now and you could feel the excitement as the show drew closer. You knew that WWE would have some surprises and one of them started the show.
This week’s edition of SmackDown opened with Vince McMahon himself making an appearance before the live crowd. After looking at the fans for a few moments, McMahon asked “where the h*** have you been” before leaving, not to be seen again for the rest of the show. This was McMahon’s first appearance since WrestleMania 37, when he appeared to start the show and thanked the fans for sticking with the WWE.
It was nice to see the boss. Check out his return, his WrestleMania speech and a few fun moments:

Slammiversary 2021 Preview, Predictions And Thoughts

There is something cool about the idea of an anniversary show. If nothing else, it reminds you just how long a promotion has been around, which can often be lost when you don’t think about it very often. Impact Wrestling has somehow been around nineteen years this month and it very well may be around for a lot longer to come. They tend to make the most of their anniversary shows so maybe there is some optimism here. The fans are back in person too so let’s get to it.
Pre-Show: Knockouts Tag Team Titles: Fire N Flava(c) vs. Rosemary/Havok It’s another thrown together team challenging for the titles but at least there is a theme this time. Fire N Flava have been together for a good while now and feel like they have held the titles for the better part of ever, so it is certainly time for some fresh blood in there. Granted that has been the case several times before as Impact has yet to pull a trigger that lasts.
I think they’re serious:

New Title Match Added To WWE Money In The Bank

Keep the build going. WWE is back on pay per view this weekend with Money In The Bank. That is the kind of show that presents some unusual challenges to the company, as there are only so many options available to add to the card. With sixteen wrestlers tied up in two matches, WWE can only do so much with the choices they have. Now we know another match they are putting on.
WWE has announced that Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio will defend the SmackDown Tag Team Titles against Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode on the Money In The Bank Kickoff Show. The Mysterios took the titles from Roode and Ziggler on May 16 at WrestleMania Backlash. Since winning the titles, the Mysterios have only defended them twice, with both defenses taking place on the June 4 SmackDown against the Usos.
This could be an interesting one. Check out the previous match, plus both teams in action:

Former WWE Wrestler Explains Why In-Ring Drills Are Unnecessary

I can see them being mad. WWE is in a big state of transition at the moment as the company goes back on the road for live touring with fans in attendance. This is a huge change of pace after so many months away, but WWE seems to be a bit nervous about what they are doing. They have tried to do something to fix things up a bit, but it has not gone so well.
WWE has ordered all of its wrestlers to undergo a series of drills at the Performance Center in preparation to return to the road. During one of these sessions Bayley suffered a torn ACL and will be out of action for about nine months. An unnamed WWE wrestler spoke to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter and talked about how he wrestled for over fifteen years without having to undergo in-ring drills. Save for special occasions where he was coming out of retirement, the only training he did was for cardio. The wrestler said that if you can wrestle a weekly on television and another on pay per view, wrestlers should be fine for touring.

Two Surprising Names Take Part In SmackDown Dark Match

They’re the new and old generation. Like any other entertainment or sport, WWE needs to bring in some fresh blood from time to time. This might be a brand new wrestler or someone who has wrestled for them before but not in a long time. It can make for some nice changes of pace and WWE has been catching on to that as of late. They tried something else this week.
According to 411mania.com Davey Boy Smith Jr., wrestling under his real name of Harry Smith, worked a dark match before this week’s SmackDown. Smith and NXT’s Austin Theory teamed together to face Daniel Vidot and Odyssey Jones in a tag team match. This comes after Smith appeared at the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony earlier this year to induct his father. In the following weeks, there were discussions of bringing Smith back into the company. In an interview after the match, Smith said that he was back in WWE, though there is no word on him signing a new deal.
